(Published in Amarillo Daily News, September 24, 1977) John W. Pickett, 79, of 933 W Central, died yesterday. Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Schooler-Gordon Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Bishop, pastor of Caprock Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors. Mr. Pickett, born in Montague County, had been a resident of Amarillo for 55 years. He had moved from the Shamrock-Wellington area. He was a retired fireman for the Rock Island Railroad and was a Baptist. Survivors include a son, Melvin of Amarillo; three daughters, Mrs. Marvin Moreland and Mrs. Don Harrington, both of Amarillo, and Mrs. Doris Wilcox of Portales, N.M.; a brother, Dick of Mena, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. Rose Lancaster of Fresno, Calif.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. ------------------------- He was married a second time to Alice Mae Magness. He was also her second husband. They married 20 Jul 1938 in Potter County, Texas. Her oldest child was 15 years old and the youngest was 10 years old at time of their marriage. -------------------------
