Services for Jack "Sam" Sholars, 87, of Winnie and formerly of Grapeland will be at Bailey & Foster Funeral Chapel with Pastor Kevin Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in Laterxo Cemetery. Arrangements have bee entrusted to Bailey & Foster. He was born to Joseph Dial and Hazel Wofford Sholars. Jack "Sam" Sholars was a longtime resident of Grapeland. He moved to Heaven surrounded by his loving family. He was married to the love of his life, June Lee for 72 years. Sam was a lifetime farmer working his farms in Latexo, Texas. He was a hay farmer extraordinaire. He loved to hunt, fish and in his younger years enjoyed owning & flying his own airplane. Sam was a fabulous athlete and excelled in football and basketball. He loved and enjoyed his family greatly. He enjoyed many family vacations at their cabin in Ratcliff and celebrated many hoildays with them, all under the same roof. The louder Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays could be- the better he like it. Sam was a Christian and a faithful member of Christ Community Church and served on the Deacon Board in Palestine, Texas. He relocated to Winnie in 2012 where he joined Cornerstone Church and faithfully attended until his death. Sam's life was a testimony of the goodness of God and that goodness was translated into every person he ever knew. He was a wonderful husband, a fabulous father, a faithful brother and the funniest Papa the kids could ever have. If you were a friend of Sam's you were valued by him and he would do anything he could to help his friends. Sam had a rich life. He left nothing unsaid when it came to his love and appreciation for his family and friends. We have not began to know how much he will be missed. He is survived by his wife June Gibson Sholars; son, Michael W. Sholars; daughter, Melanie Griffin (Kevin); sister, Dorothy Ann Hyatt; grandchildren, Kimberly, Sherman, Morgan, Sam, Katie, Sarah, Justin and Nathan and great grandchildren, Foster, Elizabeth, David and Delilah.
