John L. McNamee Jr. October 4, 1934 ~ May 27, 2019 J. L. McNamee passed away at age 84 on May 27, 2019. He was born October 4, 1934 in Gilmer, Texas to John L. McNamee and Georgia Lorene Barber McNamee. J.L.'s father, John, passed away in 1942, leaving his mother, Lorene to raise J.L. and his two brothers, Bob and David in rural East Texas. The three boys grew up very close to their maternal grand parents, Horace and Myrtle Barber. J.L. graduated from Big Sandy High School in 1952 and married Glenda Hagler on September 17, 1955, in Gilmer, Texas. J.L. would tell you he fell in love with Glenda when she whistled at him while he was driving on the square in Gilmer. The young couple moved to Dallas in 1955 to begin their life together. Ever loyal, J.L. worked for Ford Motor Company from 1955 until he retired in 1999. An avid car-enthusiast, J.L. loved everything about cars and spent most of his free time refurbishing cars, building race cars, and cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers. He delighted in his job and passion, which proved one in the same. J.L. and Glenda were blessed with two children, Justin Lynn and Kimberly Ann, whom they raised in Dallas, Texas. J.L. was an active part of his children's lives and never gave up the driver's seat on family vacations. He was the consummate handyman, always capable of taking things apart and putting them back together better than before. He was a loyal husband and deeply loving father to Justin and Kim. In 1965, J.L. was baptized and wholly committed himself to serving the Lord at Meadow View Church of Christ, formerly known as Casa View Church of Christ, where he served as deacon for more than 44 years. J.L. coordinated a teen visitation program, taught junior high Sunday school, served as maintenance coordinator for the church's bus program, and served as contribution and attendance recordkeeper for 31 years. J.L. exemplified 1 Thessalonians 4:11, "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands." He was an honorable, hard-working and humble man—a family man, who invested in his children and grandchildren wholeheartedly. His very favorite thing in the world was being "Pop" to his adored grandchildren. On July 27, 1999, J.L.'s vivacious wife Glenda passed away. They had 44 beautiful years together and poured themselves into their family, friends and faith community. J.L. later fell in love and remarried Lillie Peyronet on March 19, 2004, after a memorable ride together on the road to Henryetta, Oklahoma. Together, they spent their time loving their combined family and dear friends for more than 15 blessed years. Survived by his wife, Lillie and many many other family members and friends. Predeceased by his first wife, Glenda McNamee; his son, Justin Lynn McNamee; his parents, John L. and Lorene McNamee; step-father, Chester Gage; and brother, Bob McNamee. The funeral service will be held June 14, 2019, burial immediately following at Restland Memorial Park....RFH
