Bio

Laddie G. Berkovsky, 77, of Shiner, Texas passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 11:00 am at Saints Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas with Father Bryan Heyer officiating. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at 7:00 pm at Buffington Funeral Home with Deacon Joe Machacek officiating. Laddie was born on June 26, 1941 in Gonzales County, Texas. He was the son of Godfrey and Cecilia (Zissa) Berkovsky. Laddie married Evelyn Hahn on April 8, 1961 at Saint Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Texas. He liked to do woodworking projects for craft shows, and taking care of his vegetable garden. When time allowed, Laddie liked to go hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing his accordion for family and friends. Laddie played the saxophone and drums for Leon and his Polka Boys as well as helping with other bands. He was a 50+ year member of SPJST. Laddie started working for Mraz Lumber Company on August 1, 1959, and he retired after 54 years of fixing and repairing the pipes of Shiner. Laddie was always having fun with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren jumping on the trampoline or chasing after them because they said he couldn’t catch them. He was preceded in death by his parents; Godfrey and Cecilia Berkovsky, his mother and father-in-law; Alfred and Mary Hahn, one son; Patrick Berkovsky, one daughter; Donna Berkovsky, one sister-in-law; Patti Hahn, and one niece; Janice Jahn.
