Hannah Etta (Keener) Ritter, was born at Grafton, West Virginia, December 25, 1839, and departed this life at Redkey, August 15, 1909. Age sixth-nine years, seven months and 21 days. She was united in marriage to Hiram Ritter, November 19, 1857. To this union were born nine children; six boys and three girls all of whom except one daughter, are now living in or near Redkey. They are Mrs. Edward Caylor, Mrs Frank Rathbun, Henry, James, John, Charles, William and Alfred. Her husband proceeded her in death November 6th, 1887. She leaves beside her children, two brothers, two sisters, sixteen grandchildren and many friends and acquaintances to mourn her departure. She came to Indiana in April, 1858, who with her husband were dominated with that persevering spirit, willing to clear the land making civilization possible we so much enjoy today. What she was as a mother is reflected in the lives of her sons and daughters. What she was as a Christian, many can testify. She believed in the old-time way, when the spirit of God came on her in such a manner none could doubt her sincerity. She loved her children and her neighbors, and was loved by all who knew her. She was united with the Christian Church over forty years ago but in the past few years became associated with the United Brethren. May the God of all Grace sanctify her death to the edification of all our hearts. Funeral services were held at the U.B. Church, August 17th, conducted by Rev. J. H. Nail with interment in Hill Crest. Unknown source
