Clarence W. Guthrie Of Charleston Dies Dr. Clarence Walter Guthrie, 86, well-known retired Coles County veterinarian, died at 8 a. m. today at the Kuster Nursing Home in Bethany, Ill, where he had been a patient more than six months. He had been in ill health for some time. His body has been returned to the Harper-Swickard funeral home in Charleston, where friends may call after noon Thursday. Services will be at 2 p. m. Friday, but the place has not been chosen. Burial will be in Roselawn cemetery. He was born Dec. 10, 1870, in Bethany, the son of Francis M. and Matilda Tolby Guthrie. He attended Bethany public schools and veterinarian schools in Toronto, Canada, and in Chicago, where he graduated. He practiced in a Decatur veterinary hospital and in Bethany and Enid, Oklahoma, before coming to Charleston about 45 years ago. He had practiced 53 years when he retired in June, 1953. Dr. Guthrie married the former Elizabeth Tym in Bethany Jan. 30; 1901. She died Jan. 23, 1950. He leaves three sisters, Mrs. Emma Younger, Bethany; Mrs. Alice Foster, Sullivan, and Mrs. Naomi Cole, Dalton City, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
