Funeral services for JoAnn Dixon, 85, of Austin, Texas and formerly of Giddings are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Uche Andeh officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. The family will be present for visitation Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and a rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. JoAnn Marie (Freytag) Dixon was born on December 8, 1933 to Arnold Anton and Lena (Miksch) Freytag in Moulton, Texas. JoAnn was confirmed in 1945 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moulton, Texas. JoAnn married Jessie Burton Dixon of Austin on February 2, 1963 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton, Texas. She worked as a secretary for the Whitley Company in Austin for over 20 years making the commute from Giddings, Texas every day. JoAnn was an active member at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Giddings as well as a member of the Altar Society and the American Legion Auxiliary until her move to a retirement community in Austin in 2011. There she enjoyed many activities and getting to see her granddaughters as often as possible. She enjoyed making pickles, volunteering and most of all taking care of her family. An avid basketball fan she never missed her son's and granddaughter's high school and college basketball games. Sending amazing care packages to her son during his military service was a source of comfort and joy to her. JoAnn passed away the morning of Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Beckett Meadows in Austin with family and friends by her side. JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Burt Dixon; her parents, Arnold and Lena Freytag; her brother, Kenneth Freytag; as well as several in-laws and cousins. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, John Dixon and his wife, Marlene of Abilene and Anthony "Tony" Dixon and his wife, Margie of Austin; four grandchildren, Shelby Allana Dixon of Austin, Sydney Marie Dixon of Austin, Thomas Richardson of Abilene and Taylor Marie Dixon of Abilene; brother and sister-in-law, James Freytag and his wife, Caroline of Moulton; sister-in-law, Loretta Freytag of Flatonia; as well as several nephews, nieces and friends.
