Mary Cranston was born in Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland 7 August 1841. Mary emigrated with her family, first stopping a few years in New York City, then traveling in 1852 to settle in Clayton, Adams County, Illinois. Mary and Timothy had two sons, William Cranston Miner (Willie) (1867-1960), born 1st January 1867 and Edgar born on 3 May 1868. Unfortunately, Mary died shortly after the birth of Edgar, on 11 May 1868. According to the letter from William Cranston written on 4 August 1868, the tiny baby Edgar lived with Mary’s parents, at least part of the time. They don’t refer to him by name only as the “little man” who they were worried about because he was doing so poorly. Unfortunately, he did not live long dying on 29 September 1868. Mary and Edgar are buried in the Miner plot of the Temple Cemetery, Farmer's township, Fulton Co., Illinois. Timothy noted in his diary (now lost) "the poor baby is crying and crying" as reported to me by my grandmother, Mary E Miner. Excerpt from "Letters Written to Timothy Graham Miner Vol 4. The Cranston Family" by Jeannette Spangler Maxey May 2019
