Bio
Roger Dale Hering was born in East Bernard, Texas, on October 5, 1955 to Earl Dee and Augusta Rose Zapalac Hering, and was called home by the Lord on April 13, 2019 at the age of 63. Roger was named for a favorite song of his parents, Our Baby's Book by Ernest Tubb, who had a son named Roger Dale. He had a passion for classic country music and loved having it play loudly for all to enjoy throughout his home. Roger graduated from Katy High School, Class of '74, where he played football for Katy Tigers, won a state recognition for his art and where he was involved with mechanics and welding. Roger lived on a boat at sea and loved to travel. He moved to Sealy in 1987 and had called it home since. He loved the outdoors, time on the lake, reading, working with his hands, crafts, and spending time with family. Roger was involved with the Immaculate Conception live auction and could lift and move items that no one else could budge. He was an ACTS brother and was a gentle giant, a loving soul. Roger received an Aircraft's Mechanic certification and worked for Layne Aviation for several years. He retired from Western International Gas & Cylinders in 2016 where he worked in mechanics and maintenance. Known for his love of camo and crocs, Roger would always take the time to talk and make a person feel special. Roger is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Augusta Rose Zapalac Hering; older brother, Earl Dee Hering, Jr.; grandparents, Maria Chovanec and Frank Zapalac from Frydek, and Gus Hering and Julia Hering Kollatschny from Sealy. Roger adored and is survived by his only child, Jonathan Mitchell Hering of Dallas, and his granddaughter, Alyssa Joan Hering; sisters Rose Bean and Dr. James Bean of El Paso, Lisa and Steve Wilson of Sealy, and Lori and Randy Worrell of Friendswood. He was loved by many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephew, Meagan and Nathan Bean, Katy and Mark Weldon, Christina Wilson and Ray Ramirez, Samuel Wilson, Jenni and Dylan Steinbach, Matthew Worrell, Rainey Worrell, Sophia Ramirez, Anderson Wilson Mathews, and Maggie Weldon; and his treasured dog and friend, Duke. Serving as pallbearers were Lincoln Green, Matthew Worrell, Meagan Bean, Sam Wilson, Mark Weldon, and Dylan Steinbach.
