Bio

Mahala Macklin was born December 15, 1832 and died October 1, 1893, aged 61 years, 9 months and 16 days. She was born in Franklin County, Ohio, where her father died in 1838. Her mother the same year came to this state and settled in Adams County with her three children, Mahala being the eldest. On April 7, 1850, she was united in marriage to Phillip Macklin and they moved on their farm in Bearcreek Township in Jay County in the same year and lived there until her death. Phillip and Mahala were parents of ten children, four daughters and six sons, four of whom have preceded her to the land of rest. The husband and six children, three boys and three girls are left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving companion and a fond and affectionate mother. She has twenty grandchildren and three have passed on before. She had not been stout for a number of years, but her last sickness lasted less than an hour. She had been apparently before in good health. She dropped dead Sunday morning when coming into the house from doing her morning outdoor work as she went to step upon the porch.
