Son of Joseph and Clara (Lamser) Gans. Brother of Charles Gans , Amelia (Gans) Vandersnick , and Emelie (Gans) Bernt . Married Antonia Kunschner, license issued August 30, 1882 in Platte County, Nebr. '''''''''''''''''' The Daily Telegram (Columbus, Nebr.), March 24, 1941, p. 6, col. 5 Funeral Services For Joseph Gans Tuesday Morning Funeral services for Joseph William Gans, 83, former Columbus resident who died at Stuart Saturday after two months illness, will be held at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bonaventure's church with Rev. J. J. Brogger officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic cemetery. Mr. Gans had been living with a son, Joseph, at whose home he died, and with another son, James, at Atkinson, since December. Since December, he has lived with his son at Stuart, and with another son, James, at Atkinson. Born Dec. 25, 1858, in Austria, he came to Columbus in 1874. In 1897 [ 1882 ] he was married to Miss Mary Morys of David City. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm in Polk county near Duncan, and in 1908 retired and moved to 3522 Thirteenth street. Mrs. Gans died in Dec. of 1928. NOTE: according to his wife's obituary the couple farmed in Holt County near O'Neill for 30 years & this is confirmed by census records . Surviving are four sons, Joseph and James of Atkinson, John of Everett, Wash., and Michael of Columbus, two daughters, Mrs. Frank Hammersmith of Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Gerald V. Fee of Portland, Ore. The body was brought from Stuart yesterday afternoon and will lie in state at the Gass Funeral home. ____ The Daily Telegram , March 26, 1941, p. 8, col. 2 Gans Funeral Tuesday – Funeral services for Joseph William Gans, 83, former Columbus resident, who died Saturday at Stuart, were held yesterday at St. Bonaventure's church. Rev. J. J. Brogger, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth, Michael, Joseph, and James Gans, and Harry Bartholomew, and Horace Sacrider.
