Bio

Malcom Jack Orr was born March 25, 1928 to Oscar J. and Lilly (Kitty) Orr. He was raised with his younger brother Jerry in San Antonio, Texas. At the age of seventeen he joined the Navy submarines and served for five years. He took a break and entered a monastery for five years. He was searching for spiritual truth. He left one structured and disciplined life to another. He enlisted in the Army and served our country as a medic in Korea and Vietnam for ten years where he was injured and became disabled. While serving he acquired the nickname of "Grandpa" because he was the oldest serving medic. Doctors and surgeons didn't expect him to live. He surprised everyone. After many months of therapy, he was able to walk with crutches and his communication skills were a miracle. He was released from the Army with an honorable discharge. He went to his mother's home and cared for her until her death. He learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was baptized a member and remained a faithful and dedicated saint. At age fifty-nine he met and married the love of his life, Verna Campbell. Along with Verna came two daughters, Debera Cody and Bonnie King, ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. Malcom was a strong-willed man to the very end. Underneath the crust he was kind, loving, grateful and a real cream puff. We all love and miss him. We know it will only be a short time until we are together again. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park Cemetery. Messinger Payson Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements. (Payson Roundup 7-24-18)
