According to Hamburg, Germany ship passenger lists, Michael Ryba (age 37), Antonie Ryba (35), and Joh. Ryba (13), residence Sultowo, Austria, were aboard the Gellert which left Hamburg for New York City on May 17, 1876. The ship arrived in New York City on May 31 with Michael Ryba (37), wife Antonie (35), and son Joh. (13), all from Austria, aboard. 1880 census (Butler Precinct, Platte County, Nebr.): Mikel Ribba (45, farmer, born Polland), Kathe (wife, 40, keeping house, Polland), and John (son, 20, Polland). 1885 census (Butler Precinct, Platte County, Nebr.): Mike Ryba (51, farmer, Austria), Annie (wife, 48, keeping house, Austria), and Catharine (daughter, 17, Austria). Their son John (23, farmer, Austria) and his wife Mary (17, keeping house, Austria) were in the next household. 1900 census (Columbus, Platte County, Nebr.): Mike Ribe (born 1840, Poland, immigrated 1880, day laborer) and Antonie (wife, born spring 1840, Poland, married 30 years, mother of two children, one living). 1910 census (Columbus, Platte County, Nebr.): Michael Ryba (79, Austrian Poland, immigrated 1880) and Antonia (wife, 70, Austrian Poland, immigrated 1880, married 50 years, mother of two children, one living). '''''''''''''''''''''' The Columbus Telegram , November 26, 1915, p. 2, col. 4 Infirmities incident to his advanced age caused the death of Michael Ryba at St. Mary’s hospital Monday. Mr. Ryba was a native of Galecia, where he was born more than 80 years ago. He married in the old country fifty-five years ago, and then he and his wife came to America forty years ago, locating on a farm near Columbus. After residing there awhile they went west later returning to Platte county, and for the past thirty years they have made their home near and in Columbus. Mr. Ryba is survived by his aged wife and one son, John Ryba. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fr. Czech at St. Anthony’s Catholic church Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock.
