Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - January 4, 1998: POCATELLO - Martha Cook McDonald, 80, of Pocatello, died Friday, January 2, 1998 at a local healthcare center. She was born June 14, 1917 in Jameston, Idaho to John William and Sarah Jeremy Wallace cook. She attended schools in Jameston and graduated from Shelley High School in 1936. Martha married Walter rich McDonald on February 8, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Martha and Walter lived in Blackfoot, Idaho and Logan, Utah before moving to Pocatello in 1945. She worked at the Ben Franklin Store and the People's Store before going to work for the Pocatello School District No. 25 in 1954. She started in the Pocatello High School Cafeteria as cashier and doing laundry. In 1962 she managed the laundry system for the whole school district, retiring in 1979 with 26 years of service. She loved her home and yard which was always cared for and full of flowers. She was very happy when she was awarded the Golden Arrow Award for her beautiful yard in 1995. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, arts and crafts, including a beautiful doll collection. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the first Primary President for the Pocatello 14th Ward and served in various church positions, Relief Society counselor, Sunday School teacher and visiting teacher. She is survived by her husband, Walter, a son, Stephan (wife, Carol) McDonald of Logan; a daughter, Joan (husband, Russell) Stoddard of Pocatello; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, two sisters, and six brothers. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 7, 1998 at the Calldwell Park LDS Ward in Pocatello with Bishop Evan Smith officiating. Burial will be in Taylor Cemetery in Shelley, Idaho.
