John Michael Tedesco, 82, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday April 2, 2019 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy surrounded by his family. A visitation will be held on Sunday April 7, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Funeral Mass will be on Monday April 8, 2019 at St. Jude Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. John was born on October 27, 1936 to Michael and Georgia (Kabourek) Tedesco in Omaha, Nebraska. He married Kathryn Hanes on September 11, 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska. They lived in Cedar Rapids for over 50 years. John was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. John was an active member of the Hawk A Model A Ford Club for several years, the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA), and Model A Restorers Club (MARC). John served the local club as President for two terms, Vice President for one term, and Fifth Director for two terms. He was also the chairperson of the club tools, even having made some of them. He kept a lot of Model A cars running while on tours and at the owner’s home. John is survived by his wife, Kathryn, daughter, Teresa (Cory) Naughton of Fort Dodge, son, Michael Tedesco of Jesup; seven grandchildren including Micaela (Joe) Goodenbour, Tyler Tedesco, Rafferty Naughton, Cade Naughton, Johnathan Tedesco, and Milena Naughton; seven great-grandchildren including Aubree, Easton, Gunner, Kylie, Peyton, Brooklyn, and Hunter; sisters-in-law, Janice Tedesco, Donna (Gary) Ahlstrom; nieces, Maia Tedesco, Sherri (Chris) Haynes; and nephews, Joe (Becky) Tedesco and Steve (Shannon) Ahlstrom. John was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Georgia; Kathryn’s parents, Donald and Marie Hanes, son, Douglas born asleep; and brother, Paul. John will be missed by many club members, family and friends. Every year from our first Christmas John would do a family picture as he had a knack for doing photography. Everyone enjoyed the family and kids photos. John stopped doing photos when the kids were teens but to this day we still do the Christmas letter. John had a 58 Chevy that he would race with buddies, Bob Bagley and Wes Rase having good times on the drag strip in the Omaha are in 1962 through 1964. They also tried the strip in the Lincoln area but only a few times. John wanted to buy a race car for Mike in 1985 to race which was a 1969 Chevy Nova called “Novacaine”. John wanted to work on the car problems with Mike, but Mike made his first car a race car and has that to this day. Mike had a friend, Dywayne Thompson who was also racing a car at the Cedar Falls Raceway. The two guys got their fathers together, who have been friends now for many years. Lee and John have sat in a kitchen drinking many cup of coffee talking about racing and other things. John has long stopped racing and going to the track but now it is Mike and Tyler at the track with their cars and the father/son have the same problem…Mike wants Tyler to drive his race car and save Tyler’s car with the same answer as John and Mike had. Racing is in three generations of Tedesco’s blood!!!! John was an active member of the Hawk A Model A Ford Club for several years serving as President for four years (Two Terms), Fifth Director for four years (two terms), Vice President for two years, chairperson for the club tools for several years till his death. Some of the tools he made himself as was cheaper and he enjoyed the club. John had a hand in keeping a lot of club member’s Model A cars running as he had parts and tools of his own that he would take on tours if there was a problem with a car so we were always the last Model A on tours. John also fixed generators and starters for Model A and Model T cars he did a lot and the count was something he knew. That kept him busy and he enjoyed helping club members. John will be missed by a lot of club members with his big smile and a the right answer to the problem of why that car stopped with no charge for the repair. John will be missed by a lot of people who he has touched their lives. Our family will have many memories of time when he went racing, birthdays, Christmas and other family times together. John is proud of what his children have become! His grandchildren and great grandchildren are also his pride and joy! Till we meet again, John, we will have you in our hearts! Love you so MUCH!!!!!!!
