Douglass Earl “Doug” Hubacek, 68, of Gillsville, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002. Mr. Hubacek was born September 12, 1933, in Limestone County, Texas. He was a son of the late Virginia Douglass Hubacek Means, Gillsville, and Charlie J. Hubacek, Alvin, Texas. Mr. Hubacek attended school in San Diego, Calif., and graduated from San Diego High School in 1950. He was employed with Decca Association as a manager of Blue Trace Groves in West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. Hubacek retired in 1996 and returned to his home in Gillsville. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Hubacek was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, in the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the Rev. Brian Stowe officiating. Mr. Hubacek is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sue Ford Hubacek; daughters and sons-in-law, Terresa and Jeff Shubert, Commerce, and Dione and Sam Massey, Dacula; three grandchildren, Derick Blalock and Madison and Andrew Massey; and several cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Suite B2, 1060 Gaines School Road, Athens, GA 30605, or to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Suite 222, 2150 Limestone Road, Gainesville, GA 30501.
