Sue Dean Waldrop Smith was born on Jan. 26, 1930, in Brooks Community of Panola County, Texas, to the late Melvin Gray and Bonnie Ester Gentry Smith. She graduated from Carthage High School in 1946, and attended Tyler Jr. College. She married John Lamar Smith, Jr. 1949, and they celebrated over 56 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 2005. Mrs. Smith worked as the bookkeeper in the offices of doctors Wilson and Tucker for 12 years. The next fifteen years were spent living in Singapore, Indonesia, and Scotland with her family. One of her favorite memories from her time in Southeast Asia was knowing and working with missionaries. While living in Scotland, Mrs. Smith and her husband were involved in starting the International Baptist Church, now known as the Hillview Community Church in Aberdeen. Upon their retirement in 1986, she owned and operated The County Fair in Carthage for twelve years. Mrs. Smith enjoyed her retirement in Hideaway, TX and Salida, CO, where she enjoyed church, friends, family, and bible study. She had a great love for her family and they for her. She will be missed by all who knew her. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Felton Waldrop and a sister, Joan Waldrop Rogers.
