Bio

Miller married Verdie Whaley. September 22, 1966; Rites Held Tuesday for M. E. Porter, 74 Funeral services for M. E. "Bill" Porter, 74, who died Saturday, September 17 at Lundberg Memorial Hospital, were conducted Tuesday morning at Hengstler's Chapel. The Rev. Richard T. Hartshorn of the Congregational-Baptist Church officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Burt, Harry Lafrenz, Elwin Tyler, Earl Berglund, Kenneth Smith and Junior Myers. He had been hospitalized nearly six months. Miller Eugene Porter, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Porter, was born April 2, 1892, on the family farm near Chambers. He lived thee until the age of 11 when he moved with the family to a farm northeast of Creighton. He lived the rest of his life in this community. On May 24, 1909, he was married to Verdie I. Whaley at Center. Three sons were born to them, Robbie Ellsworth and Clyde Roland, both of Creighton and Ivan Clem who died in 1924 at the age of 13. Mr. and Mrs. Porter lived on a farm northeast of Creighton until 1953 when they moved into town. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1959. Mr. Porter was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge for a number of years. Surviving, besides his two sons, are six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sisters and one brother. Preceeding him in death were his wife, one son, parents, two sisters and five brothers.
