Bio

In 1900 Buffard was living with his parents James and Phoebe, his older brother Donville, and his baby sister Veritas on farm five miles southeast of Elgin in Bastrop County, Texas. In 1901 his father died, but in 1910 he was still living on the farm with his widowed mother and siblings. On his WW 1 draft registration, he was described as being tall and of medium build with blue eyes and brown hair. He served in France with the 345th Field Artillery. 1920 found him back on the farm with his mother, his widowed half-brother Lee Bailey, and nephew Waymon Bailey. In 1930 it was just his mother and him. By 1940 he had married Murphy Johnson Guynes, a young widow with three small children. They were farming in Bastrop and Buffard's elderly mother had gone to live in Austin with one of Buffard's half-brothers.
