SHARES A HEADSTONE WITH CHARLES HERMAN ESCHBERGER (#19689207), HER HUSBAND.
Gertrude Alice Eschberger, of Taylor, was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2012, at the age of 94 years, 7 months. Born on her grandfather's farm near Rosebud, Texas, on August 7, 1917, she was the eldest of five children born to Ludwig and Lena (Meir) Fuessel. Gertrude attended school in Rosebud. She married Charles Herman Eschberger on February 24, 1937, after meeting him at a Fourth of July celebration in Taylor the year before. Their marriage was blessed with five children. At the age of 39, she became certified as a licensed vocational nurse and began a much-anticipated career where her devotion, commitment, and loyalty were clearly shown. This career, that spanned over three decades, was with only one employer, Johns Community Hospital, in Taylor. She loved flowers, gardening, her family, friends, and her "kitties." An amazingly strong, determined, courageous, resourceful, and hardworking woman, she raised five God-loving children, supported her husband as she worked alongside him on their farm, held down a demanding full-time career, and served her community by volunteering in whatever capacity was called for. Her greatest joy, though, was her grandchildren. She loved them dearly and it made her heart sing to see them, to spend time with them, to cook for them, teach them, and care for them. She loved to sing with and play with them. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Charles Herman Eschberger; sister, Pauline Junak; brothers, Edwin, Oddis and Herbert Fuessel; great-grandson, David Roznovak; and infant son, Gilbert. She was a member of St John's Lutheran Church in Thrall, where she was very active with the ladies organization. Gertrude is survived by sons, A. Jerry Eschberger (Trilba) and Donald Eschberger (Elaine); daughters, Joan Monroe, Betty Scruggs (Sonny), and D. Katy McRae (Rick). Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Eschberger's grandsons, Dan Eschberger, Rockley Eschberger, Brian Eschberger, Alan Eschberger, Kevin Monroe, Wynn Scruggs, and Stewart Scruggs will officiate as pallbearers. Granddaughters Kimberly Denison, Patty Locklin, Jackie Fillip, Cindy Eschberger, and Stephanie Segura are named honorary pallbearers. The family would like to express its gratitude to the Temple Hospice Organization, especially Lisa, Olga, Rodney, Bick, Bill, Gloria, and Dr. Moffet. Friends and family are invited to a visitation with the family from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 15, at Condra Funeral Home in Taylor. Services will be 2 p.m., Friday, March 16, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 409 South Main Street, in Thrall, with Pastor Jon Bielfeldt officiating. Internment will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
