Julia Elizabeth Trivett Dillon Julia Elizabeth Trivett Dillon, 60, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Heritage Hall Health Care Big Stone Gap, Virginia. She was a member of the Tacoma United Methodist Church and a Board Member of the Tacoma Community Center; Julia was Director of Family Support Services at Mountain Empire Older Citizens (MEOC).  She began her work with MEOC as a social work intern.  During her tenure, spanning 1980 to the present, she also served as outreach worker and director of older worker training programs.  She was the organization’s in-house specialist on Alzheimer’s and other dementias and was a member of Virginia’s Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Commission. Julia worked with the start-up of adult day health care in the area as well as of both center-based and in-home respite to give caregivers a break.  She recognized the important role of family caregivers and did much to support their work, including facilitating Alzheimer’s support groups and caregiver support groups and coordinating training seminars for caregivers.  She was a founding member of the Virginia Caregiver Coalition and of the ARC of Lenowisco, which serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.   She was on the Board of Directors of the Virginia Association for Home Care.  Under Julia’s leadership, MEOC’s Family Support Services received many statewide and national accolades, notably being recognized in 2001 by the National Council on Aging as one of the top five caregiving programs in the nation. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carson and Barbara Trivett. Surviving is her love of her life her husband, Sam Dillon; a step son, David Dillon; step daughter, Mary Margaret Langston; a brother Louie (Lori) Trivett; two sisters, Rebecca Trivett Cook and Jane (Andy) Mullins; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 10, 2019 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA. Funeral Services will follow at 2 P.M. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mitch Elliott, Rev. David Gilbert and Rose Mincey officiating.
