SHINER: Bernice (Jiral) Vancura Ebert, 89, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019. She was born May 30, 1929 in Shiner to the late Charles and Mary (Stary) Jiral. She married Jim Vancura on February 22, 1949 and they were blessed with four children, Debbie, Danny, Jimmie and Michael. Jim died in 1976 and she married her friend, Walter F. Ebert, also widowed, and they joined their family to include Walter, David and Cheryl Ebert. Bernice graduated from St. Joseph's in Yoakum. She was a strong independent woman who overcame many hard times. She worked many jobs in her life , most notably as assistant manager of a Palais Royal Store in Houston and as co-owner of Ebert's Catering in Shiner. Bernice loved being with her family, enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Preceded in death by parents; first husband, Jim Vancura; son, Michael Vancura; sisters Annie Brenek and Theresa Hammond; brother Alfonse Jiral. Visitation 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, February 4, 2019 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home with a Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass 10 a.m., Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Burial to follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery. Published by the Victoria Advocate, February 3, 2019
