Bio

MEADOWVIEW, Va. Elizabeth Carolyn McMahan Gorbett, age 73, passed away on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va. She was born in Marion, Va., to the late Hobert McMahan and Minnie Mae McMahan. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Gorbett Jr; her sisters, Hazel McMahan and Betty Bentley; and her brothers, Buford, Ed, Ralph, Raymond and Bob McMahan. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who loved flowers, collecting angels, traveling and spending time with her family. She enjoyed attending the Full Gospel Mission Church in Kernersville, N.C., and the Red Bluff Nazarene Church in Pasadena, Texas, where she played the tambourine and sang. She was a very strong and independent woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Survivors include, her children, Ricky Ward, David Ward, Michael Bain, Tammy Carrico, and Jeanie Bain; stepchildren, Charles W. Gorbett III, Chris Gorbett; grandchildren, Richard Ward, Brandon Ward, David Ward, Beth Wilson, Joshua Bain, Amber Lopez, Isaiah Garcia, Carol Bain, and Charles W. Gorbett IV; great-grandchildren, Lanah Ward, James Ward, Bailey Ward, Emalee Wilson, Jozlyn Bain, Elianna Lopez, and Casey Gorbett; sisters, Wilma Epperson and Juanita Rouse; brother, Kenny McMahan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at the Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel in Marion with the Reverend Buster Mullins and the Reverend Garland Glascoe officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 29, 2019, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Rose Lawn Cemetery.
