Leon Elwyn Embry was born June 27, 1920 in Greenville, TX to Daniel and Ruby Embry; he passed away June 12, 2015 in Mesquite, TX. Leon was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Jo Embry. He is survived by his daughter, Terri Lynne Loftin; son, Scott Elliott Embry and wife Sue; 5 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. From 1941 to 1946 during World War II, Leon served his country in the Army Air Corps, doing airplane maintenance in the South Pacific. He was even promoted from Private to Master Sergeant in 1 day. Leon and his wife, Mary Jo, loved to travel. They went all over the world, and always took an extra suitcase to bring back new additions to their rock collection. Leon was a harmonica player, and an avid tennis player, who won 2nd place at the Dallas City Open Doubles. He was a bowler at the professional level, president of the Mesquite Toastmasters, and he also volunteered his time at Greenway, Community Shut-Ins, and Mt. Auburn Christian Church. Leon testified before the U.S. Senate, and was the first person ever named to the National Worker’s Comp. Board. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 17, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., and Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10:00 A.M., all at Grove Hill Funeral Home.
