Bio

Harry Lee Selman, 83, of Rockwall, Texas, died at his home, January 14, 2019. Harry was born August 30, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, to Bobby Sylvester and Mary Evelyn (Burns) Selman. He graduated high school in 1952, where he was an All-American Football player at Lancaster High School. Upon graduation he served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged January 1960. On September 25, 1965, he married his beautiful wife, Margaret Rose Wilkey in Dallas, Texas. They were married for 53 years, and together raised a vast family, who loved him dearly. Harry was a hard-working elevator man for Montgomery Elevators and Otis Elevators for 20-plus years, and a strong union man, finishing his career as a Business Agent for IUEC Local 21, retiring in 1993. After retirement from IUEC the real fun began. Harry was a lifelong car enthusiast and fierce competitor. He spent many hours working alongside his grandson Billy Gatlin, building countless hot-rod motors, and many years at the racetrack watching his son and grandson race. He was working on his final motor for his prized 1931 Tudor Sedan Model A, only a few days prior to his passing. On Sundays he spent time in prayer, worship and fellowship. Harry loved Jesus. His legacy would be one of leadership, loyalty and family. Harry was survived by his wife, Margaret, of Rockwall; his daughters, Janna Dee Selman of Dallas, and Andrea Denise Selman-Bass of Forney, Texas; and stepdaughter, Dana Gatlin Aubrey, Rockwall; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, along with countless family and friends. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; his beautiful daughter, Janette Selman Small; his stepson, Steven Kent Gatlin; Vicki Lynn Gatlin and grandson, Joshua Paul Jordan. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, 17 January, at First Baptist Rockwall, Rockwall, Texas, followed with burial at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas. ∼ Notes: Marker photo and partial cemetery plot added per auto SAC on 10 Jul 2019.
