R. Estella “Stella” Roberts, age 91, of Pittsfield IL, passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. She was born on November 2, 1927 in Goliad, Texas to James and Bertha Wright Benham. She married Benjamin Roberts on September 5, 1945 in Pittsfield, and he preceded her in death on October 7, 1987. Stella worked at various places in the Pittsfield area including Ben Franklin, Brown Shoe factory, P.N. Hirsch department store, and the Farm and Home Store. She later worked for the City of Pittsfield in the City Clerk’s office, retiring from there in 1986. Stella attended the Pittsfield United Methodist Church. She and Ben were original members of the Pittsfield Dance Club. Stella was also a past President of the Pittsfield American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and worked on Legion Bingo nights for 30 years. Stella loved bowling with her teams, both ladies’ teams and mixed doubles. She bowled on organized leagues for 51 straight years, and participated in State and National bowling tournaments well into her late 80s. She also enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin, playing Bingo, and making homemade candy. Stella enjoyed travel throughout the United States. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (David) Williamson of Washington IL, and Darla Roberts of Fountain Hills AZ; six grandchildren, Kent (Katrina) Wheelock, Tiffany Wheelock, Tony (Misty) Wheelock, Tracey (Brittany) Wheelock, David Williamson, and Sarah (Lee) Schlueter; sixteen great grandchildren, Shelby (Matt) Wheelock, Nathan Wheelock, Hannah (Josh) Trent, Levi (Ashley) Wheelock, Elijah Von Gunten, Seth Von Gunten, Taylor Wheelock, Carter Wheelock, Madison Wheelock, Jade Wheelock, Eliazar Wheelock, Isabelle Williamson, Layla Williamson, Landon Schlueter, and Savannah Schlueter; nine great great grandchildren, Maverick Brown, Kolton Carlisle, Liam Carlisle, Spencer Carlisle, Scarlett Wheelock, Arianna Tomkinson, Raeden Von Gunten, Ava Von Gunten, and Emma Von Gunten; and a sister, Wanda Senf of Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Bertha Benham; husband, Benjamin Roberts; brothers, James Benham and John Benham; and sister Bernice Kincaid. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield. Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Pittsfield Bowling Association.
