Mrs. Kelly was born at Sauk Center, Minn., Sept. 26, 1875, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John A. Botz. They were early day Minot residents, coming here when Mrs. Kelly was 13. She graduated from high school in Minot, received her teaching certificate in 1896, and taught school for four years. Mrs. Kelly taught in the Botz School, which is now Eureka School. On Jan. 10, 1900, she was married to Charles Kelly at St. Leo's, and was said to be the first bride in Minot all in white. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly farmed north of Minot until 1910, then moved to the West Coast. They later returned to Minot and purchased a farm 81/2 miles south-west of the city. Mr. Kelly died in 1939 and Mrs. Kelly continued to operate the farm until 1944. She then moved to Minot where she lived at 25-11th Ave. NE. Three years ago she moved to a Dickinson home for the aged and for the past year lived at a Minot nursing home. Mrs. Kelly was a longtime member of St. Leo's Church, sang in the church choir and to the Confraternity of Christian Mothers. She was a lifetime member of the Ward County Old Settlers. Mrs, Kelly had in her in her possession a quilt she received in 1898 on which the names of about 500 prominent people living in Minot and the area at that time were embroidered. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Alice Abrecht, Mrs. Frank (Rose) Hanes and Mrs. Robert (Gertrude) Mouck, all of Minot, and Mrs. Angeline Nash, Norwalk, Calif.; three sons, John C. and William H, both of Minot and Dan A. of Denbigh; 17 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
