Mary Ann Steinbach Muirhead, 79, of Grand Island passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018, at home, with her family by her side. Mary was born on Jan. 1, 1939, to Henry and Rosella (Greenwalt) at St. Libory on the John Greenwalt farm. Mary had a wonderful childhood, growing up in St. Paul. She had jobs at a young age providing child care, as a soda jerk at Brehm’s Drug Store and a car hop at Franks’s Drive-In. She graduated from St. Paul High School in 1957. She then worked for Mutual of Omaha and upon returning to Grand Island, worked at secretarial jobs until at age 21 she was severely injured in a car accident and left paralyzed. After a two-year recovery, she was able to resume working. She met and married Todd Muirhead while working at Rainbow Bread office. They were married Oct. 20, 1972. They were blessed with a daughter, Angela Lynn, and a son, Michael Todd. While raising her children, she operated The Little People Place Daycare in her home for nine years, providing care for more than 100 children during that time. She enjoyed being a volunteer for Senior Companion Services through the Grand Generation Center for several years. She was a member of VFW Club, Platt Duetsche, Ladies Society, and YWCA. Mary is survived by a daughter, Angela, and son-in-law, Adam Castaneda; a son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Sunny Muirhead; grandchildren, Taylor and Kaitlyn Castaneda, Ariel, Travis, Jacob and Jaxon Muirhead; a sister, Arlene, and brother-in-law, Larry Obermiller; a great-granddaughter, Adaline Berks; several nieces and nephews. She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents; her brother, La Verne; her husband, Todd; and special Angel, Travis Petzoldt. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
