Mr. William J. McLaughlin, 87, a resident of Union City, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Baptist Hospital Union City. William was born in Houston, Texas on March 16, 1931 then moved to Baton Rouge, LA when he was 4 years old. He attended school in Central, LA where he was a member of the first Central High Football Team, then attended college at Southeastern Louisiana for 1 year then transferred to LSU where he graduated with a B.S. in Accounting. He worked as an accountant for Crawford Corporation then AMOCO. When AMOCO relocated out of Baton Rouge, William started his own accounting and tax business in Baton Rouge, LA which he operated for 35 years retiring in 2001. William also served in the Coast Guard as a radio operator for 4 years during the Korean War. William met and married the love of his life, Kathryn Lytle Smith on June 3, 2000 in Baton Rouge, LA. They volunteered teaching Ball Room dancing at BREC for 13 years. William and Kathryn relocated to Union City, TN in 2008 where they lived a happy, quiet life. William voluntarily served as the accountant for their church and they sang in the church choir. William is survived by his wife, Kathryn Lytle Smith McLaughlin; son, Ronald McLaughlin (Cindy) of Newburgh, IN; daughter, Cecelia McLaughlin Casselberry (Paul) of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren, Michael McLaughlin (Kristin), Dennis McLaughlin and Joseph Casselberry, III. William was preceded in death by his parents; Willis J. McLaughlin and Amelia Blanchard McLaughlin, sisters; Elaine McLaughlin Roux, Evone McLaughlin Anding, and Bertha (Sharon) McLaughlin Foulkes. A memorial service will be held at William’s church, Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 22, 2018 with a one hour visitation prior to the service. William did not want any flowers at his service, but requested that memorial donations be made to Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church, 1422 Pleasant Valley Ave, Union City, TN 38261.
