Marcie (Smith) Herring, age 88, of Gholson, passed away early Tuesday evening, December 18, 2018, in Waco. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Timothy Vaverek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Marcie was born November 5, 1930 in West, the daughter of Albert and Helen (Miller) Smith. She was a 1949 graduate of Polly Tech High School in Ft. Worth. She then graduated in 1971 from McLennan Community College receiving an Associates Degree as a Registered Nurse. On March 28, 1948 she was united in marriage to Harvey Jackson Herring Jr. in Cleburne. Harvey preceded her in death on October 5, 2012. Marcie worked for Woodland Springs Nursing Home for 21 years until her retirement in 1998. She also worked for St. Francis Hospitel Nursing Home in Waco and Advance Plating Company in Ft. Worth. Marcie enjoyed traveling, reading, playing games on the computer and "Flinch" with her family. She loved spending time with her family and especially cherished the time with her grandson Jared after the passing of his mother. Marcie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was a former member of St. Veronica Circle and Altar Society at St. Louis Catholic Church in Waco. Marcie is also preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lillie Shumate; and her daughter-in-law, Sandy Herring. Survivors include her sons, Jack Herring and Rick Herring and wife Kristy, all of Gholson; grandchildren, Jared Herring, Julie Fruge and husband Neil, Bill Herring and wife Gina, Joey Herring and wife Eva, and Glenn Herring and wife Donna; great-grandchildren, Jayme, Kyle, Jaedyn, Grace, Lacey and husband Steven, and Waylon "Kyle" and wife Emily; great great grandchildren, Jaxson, Eli, Caitlan, Noah, Hannah, Luke, Dante, and Kolter; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Herring and wife Ruby and their children, Rhonda, Russell and Randy; a niece and nephew, Mark & Marva; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Russell Herring, Randy Herring, Andrew Hawkins, Neil Fruge, Samuel Maiden and Danny Williams. Obituary published online 19 Dec 2018 by Aderhold Funeral Home, West, Texas.
