Bio

Elaine Joyce Beavers Elaine was born in the home of her parents, Emil L. and Tillie (Markytan) Gruntorad in Ulysses, Nebraska on May 13, 1930. She was blessed with a brother, Dennis a few years later, and the two of them kept Tillie busy with their adventures. Emil was part owner of the bank in Ulysses, and later became an independent insurance agent. Elaine worked in the bank during her high school years. She was the homecoming queen of Ulysses High School her senior year, much to her surprise and that of the other candidates. After graduation, Elaine attended business school in Lincoln, Nebraska where she developed her secretarial and accounting skills. She worked as an assistant to one of the lead bank managers in Lincoln, who told her she was wasting her talent and encouraged her to attend university. Elaine took his advice and attended the University of Nebraska, studying art. She met her first husband at the University. They later moved to Omaha where Elaine worked for Zimmerman Advertising. In 1956 they had their only child, Shaun. Elaine continued to work for a short period of time, but then stayed home with Shaun and worked on her own art. She was a talented painter and sculptor, and learned the art of enameling and jewelry making. She joined Associated Artist of Omaha where she met and worked with respected Omaha artists, including Tom Bartek, Tom Palmerton, Milton Wolsky and Isabella Threlkeld among many others. It was in Omaha that she met her second husband, Bill Beavers. They traveled the country for a while and ultimately settled in Boise, Idaho. Together they enjoyed hunting and fishing. Elaine continued her artwork, and managed Bill's business, Town & Country Plumbing. Their home in Boise was filled with art and the duck decoys she collected over the years. She kept a flock of ducks on their acreage, and was known to feed not only her ducks but also hundreds of visiting wild ducks who discovered the benefits of her love. In May 2018, Elaine was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She moved from her beloved home and company of her many friends to live her final days in the home of her daughter. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 5, 2018 while in home hospice. Elaine is survived by her brother Dennis and sister-in-law Pat, daughter Shaun and son-in-law Joseph, grandson Daniel and his wife Jacqueline, grandson Alex and granddaughter Katie, great grandchildren Logan and Donna Jo, and her many cherished friends in Boise. Per her request she will be interred in Ulysses by her parents Emil and Tillie. In memory of her love for ducks, the family requests that donations be sent to Ducks Unlimited in her honor.
