Douglas Ralph Hawker passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at his home in Beryl due to complications associated with his diabetes. Doug was born October 4, 1931 at the Old Lehi Hospital in Lehi. He was raised in Salt Lake County, finally settling on 8000 South in Sandy. Survived in death by his wife, Maria Rose Filppi Hawker; daughter, Deanna Larson (Jay), Lehi; daughter, Carolyn Olenslager (Mike), Enoch; son, Douglas Lloyd Hawker (Cynthia), St. George; and son, Mike Johnson (Valerie), Price. At Doug’s death, he had nineteen grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. His wife of sixty-four years, Norma Mae Lloyd Hawker, passed away before him in 2013. During their married life, they lived in Murray, Lehi, Sandy, and Enoch. Parents were Ralph Walter and Wanda LaVeda Hansen Hawker (both deceased). As the eldest of twelve children, the siblings are Leon Hawker (deceased) (Beverly, deceased), Kenneth Hawker (Janet, deceased), Betty Palmer (Gail), Jo’an Ward, Carl Hawker (Liam), Ross Hawker (Jean), Glenn Hawker (Lyn), Pamela Hawker (deceased), Eugene Hawker (deceased), Susan Fraser (Greg), and Patricia Jones (Ron). Doug was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His service included working in the Young Men’s Program, Home Teaching, Primary Teacher, and as Physical Facilities person for various wards he lived in. Doug loved the outdoors. He liked to fish a lot, hunt — mainly deer, and picnics up the mountains. He enjoyed reading and watching Western movies. He fancied himself a trucker and spent what years he could driving big rigs. He worked at Geneva Steel in Orem for many years, while maintaining a salvage/wrecking yard in Lehi. He did mechanics work for many, many years at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy, where a viewing will be held prior to the services from 1:00-1:45 p.m. Interment at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
