Bio

Dorothy J. Stoddard, 90, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, at her home in Grand Island. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Grand Island, The Salvation Army or Hope Harbor in her memory. All Faiths Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Grand Island, with the Rev. Charles Peek and Rev. Susanna DesMarais officiating. Burial will be in the Ord Cemetery, Ord, Nebraska. Dorothy Jean Hosek was born December 12, 1931, in Valley County, the daughter of Rudolph and Emma (Hinesk) Hosek. She graduated from Ord High School in 1949. She married Jay Curtis Stoddard on August 23, 1949, in Pocatello, Idaho. The couple lived in North Platte and Kearney, before they moved to Grand Island, where they raised their family. She later became employed at Overland National Bank as a bookkeeping supervisor for 28 years, until she retired. Jay preceded her in death on December 12, 2017. She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years and participated in ECW. She also volunteered in Jobs Daughters, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and was a former YWCA Board member. One highlight was going to the 2000 and 2004 Democratic National Convention as a representative of Nebraska. She added a positive energy to all those she came into contact with. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Surviving are one daughter, Deborah (Kenneth) Elson of Salem, VA; two sons, David (Kathy) Stoddard of Grand Island and James (Jeannine) Stoddard of Santa Maria, CA; nine grandchildren, Amy (Kirk) Tanksley, Michelle (Tony) Roza, Jayson (Abbi) Stoddard, Nick (Abby) Stoddard, Sarah (Jared) Hansen, Laura (Carlos Miranda) Stoddard, Matthew (Krysta) Stoddard, Andrew Stoddard and Thomas Stoddard; and 13 great-grandchildren, Samantha, Aksel, Kaizer and Norah Hansen, Ezra, Oliver, Willow Rose and Thea Stoddard, Cooper Beins, Elson and Lewis Tanksley and Poppy Louise and Calla Jean Stoddard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one great-grandson, Jet Hansen and two sisters, Lydia Kerchal and Betty Schmidt. All Faiths Funeral Home
