Topeka - Al J. Staab, 93, died Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at a Topeka retirement center. He was born April 27, 1907, in Catherine to Carl and Pauline (Schmidt) Staab. He attended St. Joseph College in Hays. He married Clara Glotzbach on May 9, 1932, in Topeka. She died July 18, 1947. He later married Marjorie Murray on April 9, 1950, in Topeka. She died April 19, 1993. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy for four years. He worked at Fidelity State Bank and Trust Co. for 47 years, and retired as senior vice president. He later served 10 more years as an advisory officer and on the board of directors. He was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Shawnee County Club and Eagles Lodge, all of Topeka. Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Brace, Golden, Colo., Carol Goode, Bowie, Md., Nancy Staab, Tecumseh, and Linda Hodges, Woodland Hills, Calif.; four sisters, Edna McColl, Viola Emory and Pauline Ehler, all of Denver, and Catherine Hoffman, Hays; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka; burial in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Friday, and a parish rosary will be at 6 p.m., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, Topeka. Memorials are suggested to Midland Hospice Care, Topeka.
