Ann Kavan, 81, of Morse Bluff died Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Saunders County Care Center in Wahoo. Ann was born June 4, 1933, on a farm near Brainard to John and Anna (Benes) Scholz. She attended grade school near Loma and graduated from Brainard High School. Ann married Ruben Kavan on Nov. 23, 1957, in Schuyler. They worked together and operated their dairy farm near Morse Bluff. She was employed at the North Bend Popcorn Plant prior to working 35 years at the Rawhide Steakhouse in North Bend. Ann was a member of Morse Bluff Z.C.B.J. Lodge 9 and a lifetime member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 340 and North Bend Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 8223. Survivors include: her husband of 56 years, Ruben of Morse Bluff; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Ray Urban Jr. of Malmo, and Ruth and Steve Bertone of Papillion; daughter, Deann Souza of Fredricksburg, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Kinley Kavan of Morse Bluff; and son, Dean Kavan of Fremont; sister and brother-in-law, Albina and Cyril Kellner of Wahoo; sisters-in-law, Helen Scholz of Wahoo and Shirley Scholz of Crete; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Nadine and Jerrine Racek of Morse Bluff. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Adolph, Rudolph, Ernest, John and George Scholz; and two sisters, Lillian Hennesey and Helen Kellner. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morse Bluff Legion Hall with Jerry L. Kracl, speaker, officiating. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Sunday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Morse Bluff Legion Hall. Burial will be in Killian Hill Cemetery in Morse Bluff. Memorials may be made in care of the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary or Hospice and Home Healthcare of Saunders County.
