Bio

The Times, 31 Dec 1971, Fri, Other Editions, Page 3 Mack Johnson DeRIDDER Funeral services for Mack Johnson, 80, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Gravel Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Jeane and the Rev. George Glass officiating. Burial will be in the Gravel Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Hixson Funeral Home. Mr. Johnson died Thursday. Survivors include his widow; four daughters, Mrs. Jerry Maddox of DeRidder, Mrs. R. F. McFetridge of Deweyville, Tex., Mrs. Jessie Fountain of DeRidder, Mrs. A. J. Leeks of Hot Springs, Ark.; one son, Almond Johnson of DeRidder; three half-sisters, Mrs. Charlie Bass, Mrs. M. G. Calhoun and Mrs. Nettie Deason of Pitkin; three half-brothers, George Bass of Pitkin, G. W. Bass of Rosepine, Lawrence Bass of Dallas, Tex.; 20 grandchildren. 30 great, grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mack's mother was most likely Clarinda Johnson. His death certificate says his mother was "Johnson Clarinda". On his SS-5 social security application form it looks like "Clicindy Johnson", although it could very well could be "Clirindy Johnson". In the 1900 census, he is listed with his grandparents, Philip and Ellen. Clarinda Johnson was with Philip and Ellen in the 1880 Census, age 15. By 1900, Clarinda is no longer found in Vernon Parish. It seems likely his mother was Clarinda and she died between Mack's birth in 1891 and 1900. Contributor: Perry Elliott-Iverson
