She grew near Cordova, Nebraska where she attended grade school before graduating from David City High School in 1924. Kathryn was married four times: Joseph Barta, George Coyle, Henry Stumpel and Ray Allen. She lived for a while in Nebraska City but after Joe passed away, Kathryn moved in 1946 to Valley, Nebraska and became employed as a secretary at the Chevrolet Dealership. Kathryn spent her remaining years in Valley, for many years at her home on Mayne Street, then to her apartment on Meigs Street and finally when her health failed her last years were spent at Valhaven. Kathryn had worked as a Sales lady at a variety store in David City, and at Hested's in Nebraska City as well as a telephone operator. She enjoyed flowers, painting and camping but most of all her music. She served as the organist and pianist at the Valley United Methodist Church for more years than most of us can remember and was the chapel organist at Swanson Funeral Home equally as long. Kathryn was a member of the Methodist Church and then United Faith Community Church after their merger, United Methodist Women, 60 plus club, Valley Historical Society and Bunco club. In later years, Kathryn relied heavily on the friendship of her sister Violet and her dear friend Virginia Chaney. Kathryn passed away peacefully on Friday May 9th 2008 at Valhaven Nursing Home in Valley, Nebraska at the age of 101 years, 5 months and 3 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Maude, husbands Joe, George, Jack and Ray, an infant brother and sister Violet Holderness. Her survivors include 4 generations of nieces and nephews and many friends.
