Robert is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, sons, eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, siblings, other relatives and many friends. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, sons, 8 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Effie Lee (Smith) Skiles and siblings Chester Skiles, Hubert Skiles, William Skiles, Edward Skiles, and Mary Jo Skiles Ford. Robert was born in Walnut Springs, Texas on May 3, 1925. He spent his early years in Walnut Springs and Cleburne, Texas. Robert dropped out of school early in order to help support his widowed mother and siblings. Robert joined the U. S. Army on May 20, 1943. He served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. During this time he participated in three amphibious landings under enemy fire. His awards and decorations included: The American Theater Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and 1 Bronze Arrowhead; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars; Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1946. During his time overseas Robert unselfishly continued to support his Mother and siblings by sending money home each month. Robert was a member of The Masonic Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Robert was a devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather, he simply loved his family. He will be remembered for his selflessness, love of family and love of country and he will be greatly missed.
