John Alexander Moore was born July 31, 1875 in Duckhill, Mississippi. He was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Edward G. Moore. In 1878, they moved from Mississippi to Crawford, Texas. He attended school in Texas and on October 31, 1900 he married the former Miss Ella Frances Windrey. In his earlier years he was employed by the MK & T and the T & P railroads. In 1914, Brother Moore surrendered to the call to preach and he was received into the Texas Annual Conference of the Methodist Church. He served appointments in Winnsboro, Mount Enterprise, Burk, Summit in Marshall, West Columbia, Freeport, Cleveland, Goose Creek, Bellville, Montgomery, Highland, Chester, Gilmer Circuit, Elysian Fields, Shelbyville and Edgewood. He retired in 1940. He lived in Edgewood, Tyler and Marshall, Texas until his passing. This good and gracious minister of God now sleeps in Christ in the blessed hope of the resurrection.
