Mother's Maiden Name: Snyder Private funeral services for Dr. Ray G. Newcomer, wellknown Santa Cruz optometrist who died of an apparent heart attack at his home, 739 Escalona drive Friday, will be held at White's chapel tomorrow at 11 a.m. Santa Cruz Lodge No. 38 F& AM, will officiate at the funeral home. Private entombment will follow in the IOOF mausoleum. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. S. Maye Newcomer of the family home, and a number of nieces and nephews. Dr. Newcomer was born in Panora, la., and came to Santa Cruz in 1933. He had an optometry office on Pacific avenue for 20 years and then moved to his own office building in 1953. In 1958 he retired and spent the last six winters in Arizona. During the summer he enjoyed traveling in the north and central west. Dr. Newcomer graduated from Monmouth college, Peoria, Ill., and took graduate work at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago and at USC in Los Angeles. He was a life member of the American Aotometric association, California Optometric association and the Central Coast Optometric society. He was a member of F&AM, Emmett, Ida.; past president of Scottish Rite club, a member of Islam Temple of the Shrine and past patron of Idlewild chapter No. 19, Order of Eastern Star. He also was past watchman of Shepherds of Malta White Shrine No. 18 and past noble grand of the IOOF in Emmett, Ida. The services at White's tomorrow will be private but friends may call at the mortuary. The family declared contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.
