Bio
Elizabeth Elrod, 87, of Valley Mills, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2007, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Valley Mills. Interment will be at Valley Mills Cemetery under the direction of Foss Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Sarah Elizabeth was born in Alum Creek, Bastrop County, Texas, to the late James Oscar and Minnie Eliza Hanks. She attended Alum Creek grad school and graduated from Smithville High School in 1937. She was employed at Marrs Funeral Home in Smithville and later in Houston. Due to illness in the family she returned home to help her parents with the grocery store. She later met and married her best friend, Arthur S. Elrod, on April 12, 1942. Elizabeth was employed with Valley Mills Telephone Company, worked many years with Sears & Roebuck, and with Heart of Texas Retired and Volunteer Senior Program. She was currently employed with the law firm of Mark S. Knapp. Although she was not blessed with children by birth, she loved and was a mother to neighbors' children and their children. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Chapmen Hanks; sister, Edith Cottle and her husband, Madison; and brother-in-law, Turiell Cottle. Survivors include the children and grandchildren she loved so dearly, Brandon Pitts, Cindy and Don Hoffman, Kellie and Junior Herring and their children, Kourtnie and Kendyl, Blake Bishop, Brook Hillin, Kim West and her children, Ty, Shana and Kevin, Tanya and Bruce Beck and her children, April, Brian and Matthew; brother, Roy Hanks; sister, Bernice Cottle; and a host of nieces and nephews.
