Staff Sergeant Jones attacked a machinegun revetment of the enemy with rifle and grenades, killing all 17 Japanese occupants. He was killed by machinegun fire while returning to his squad. Staff Sergeant Jones' extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, the 41st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
