Alpine LDS Churchman Dies at 77 American Fork--Edward W. Burgess, 77, Alpine, former Alpine State President and long time bishop of Alpine died Sunday morning in the American Fork Hospital of natural causes. He was born Oct. 16, 1891 in Pine Valley, in Washington County, a son of George Edward and Emily Ann Jeffery Burgess. He married Inez Thurza Clark on Feb. 3, 1915 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Burgess had been a farmer and very active in LDS church. He had served as counselor in the Alpine Ward bishopric and 17 years as bishop of that ward. He had also served on the Alpine Stake High Council for 4 years. Mr. Burgess had served as Alpine Stake President for 6 years. He had also served as a stake missionary and 3 years and had served a mission to the Northern States for two years. Surviving are his widow of Alpine; two sons and one daughters, Ross C. Burgess and Van Edward Burgess, both of Alpine; and Mrs. Robert D. (Ula) Hemingway, Bakersfield, Calif; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one brother and two sisters: Orion J. Burgess, Parma, Idaho.; and Mrs. Ray (Aggie) Gubbler and Mrs. Evan (Dora) Sheppard, both of Alpine. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Alpine LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Anderson and Sons Mortuary in American Fork Tuesday from 7 to 3 p.m. and at the family home in Alpine Wednesday from noon until 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Alpine City Cemetery. Published Monday September 8 1969 in Daily Herald Newspaper, Provo, Utah. Obituary included a photograph.
