Served in World War II, 1st LT ARMY INFANTRY 652nd Tank Destroyer Unit (1941-1953) met Henrietta at USO dance, married June 19, 1944 in Waco, Texas. Parents: Searcy Hereford Johnson (1883 - 1967), Anne Moore Wiggins(1886 - 1927) who were a charter member of First United Methodist Church Cullman, Al Great Grandfather: Judge John A Johnson Great Grandmother; Susan Virginia Hereford Johnson, whose mother (Jane Dement Searcy) remarried Dr. Robert Searcy from Cullman, Al. Origins of the name Searcy Hereford. Spouse: Henrietta Cocek Johnson (1922-2015) married 6/19/1944 Born May 27, 1917 in Birmingham, Mr. Johnson graduated from Ramsay High School in 1934. In 1935 at the age of 18, Mr. Johnson began his career in Birmingham as an office boy/stenographer with Moore Handley Co., Inc. He completed his course study from the University of Wisconsin's Executives School of Credit and Financial Management. In 1941 Mr. Johnson entered the United States Army and over the next four years was stationed in Fort Bragg, N.C., and Camp Hood, Texas. He left active duty as lst Lieutenant, Tank Destroyer Unit Commander, and joined the Army Reserves in December 1945 remaining in the reserves for the next eight years. While serving as Vice President of Moore Handley, he also served as Vice President of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce, President of the Associated Retail Credit Managers of Birmingham, served on the Board of Directors for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, and member of the Birmingham Rotary Club serving as Treasurer. Mr. Johnson later began Applied Management Controls, a consulting firm of which he served as President. Mr. Johnson was later employed by and retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama as Vice President of Internal Operations. Mr. Johnson was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Birmingham for 81 years, teaching Sunday School for forty years. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Henrietta Cocek Johnson; son, Laurence Hereford Johnson; daughters, Nancy J. Morgan and Norma J. Ogletree; grandchildren, James Connor Morgan, Drew Harrison Morgan, William Kavanaugh Ogletree and Elizabeth Ann Ogletree, all of Birmingham. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church downtown.
