Jeanie was born May 3, 1940 to James and Margaret Svoboda in their family farmhouse, as all her siblings were. She graduated from Burwell High School in 1957. After graduation, Jeanie worked in Grand Island at the Hall County Welfare Office until she married William Ira Liermann on June 1, 1958. Bill was also a graduate of Burwell High School, class of 1953 and was a rancher working for his father west of Swan Lake. From Bill and Jeanie's marriage came four children. William Dean, born March 18, 1959; Terri Annette, May 22, 1961; Laura Jean, November 7, 1962; and James Ira, August 17, 1968. Willie currently lives in O'Neill; Terri resides in Stuart; Laura, husband John, son Andrew, and daughter Trinity live in Port Matilda, Pennsylvania; and Jim, wife Rose, and sons Andrew, Ira, and Polo live in Englewood, Colorado. Rose's oldest son Arveen lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Jeanie worked hard as a homemaker and a mother, providing a loving home for her family. Meals were well-balanced and shared as a family. As a mother, Jeanie taught her children to help out with both ranch and household chores to earn their allowance. She also taught her children the value of giving to others. Every year before Christmas, she and the kids would clean out the toy box and sort out toys to give away to the less fortunate and to make room for new toys! She taught with patience, never scolding or criticizing, always helpful and loving. Spending family time together was important; whether it be a meal in town after church, visiting family and friends, or taking a family vacation. Life was good. Then Bill died suddenly at the early age of 48. And Jeanie suddenly became a full-time rancher. She did whatever was needed to keep the ranch going; raising cattle, spraying noxious weeds, cutting cedar trees, fixing fence, and servicing windmills. Jeanie married Lyle Lemmer September 29, 1984. Jeanie and Lyle were married 34 years until Lyle passed earlier this year. Jeanie treated Lyle's children and their spouses as if they were her own, and considered Lyle's grandchildren her grandchildren also. Lyle's children and spouses, and grandchildren are Mark and Kathy Lemmer and daughters Jackie and Andrea; Sonya and Tom Martens and son Gregory and daughter Nicole; and Stephanie Lemmer and Kevin Leben. Jeanie cherished time with her sisters Irene, Margie, Tootsie, Kathaleen, Mert, and Linda. They were all very close and shared common interests in sewing, quilting, and crafting and regularly got together for sister's sewing projects. Jeanie was very active in her ladies church groups, especially at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Chambers. She so enjoyed crafting beautiful church banners, making table decorations for church meetings, or simply decorating bulletin boards for various church functions. A highlight of her faith was a trip to Mexico City for a World Relief Cross Cultural Experience in 1994. She was so humbled by the people she came into contact with in Mexico and how grateful they were. They had very little wealth, but were so grateful for what they had. Jeanie was a good daughter, caring sister, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, good friend and neighbor, and talented artist (crafter, sewer, quilter, woodworker, etc.). She was also an avid gardener; growing, canning, and freezing the fruits of her labor to provide for her family. Jeanie will always be remembered for her kind and generous manner, gentle soul, and soft spoken demeanor. Jeanie was survived by her children; Brothers Jim Svoboda and wife Marilyn of Ord, Dale Svoboda of Burwell, Alan Svoboda and wife Linda of Hastings; Sisters Margie Mayberry of Normal, IL, Tootsie Tollman and husband Buzz of Marsland, NE, Kathaleen Mead of Burwell, Marylin Scharton and husband Dave of St. Paul, NE, and Linda Thoene and husband Gene of Taylor, NE. She was preceded in death by her husbands William Liermann & Lyle Lemmer, her sister Irene VanWinkle, and Brother Tony Svoboda.
