Roy E. Brakefield passed away Thursday, December 28, 2000 at his residence in Potosi, Mo., at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 4 days. He was born March 24, 1926 at Ishmael, Mo., to the late Noah and Nettie (White) Brakefield. He was united in marriage to Ruby Pannell on February 14, 1953, in Arkansas, and six children were born to this union. Mr. Brakefield knew the Lord as his Savior and was a member of the Ozark Heights Baptist Church since 1981. He had worked at General Motors for many years until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Marie Brakefield and Ruby Ferguson and five brothers, Earnest, Jimmie, Clyde, Lennie and Lawrence Brakefield. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving and devoted wife, Ruby Brakefield, Potosi; two sons and their wives, Roy Lynn and Althea Brakefield of Frankclay and Wayne and Dee Brakefield of Potosi; four daughters and their husbands, Lela and Joe Tinker of Doe Run; Erma and William Gee of Salem; Birdie and Derk Jones of Grants, New Mexico and Jo Ann and Rick Rulo of Cadet; two sisters, Dollie Moses of Potosi and Alvenia Moses of Bland, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who will sadly miss him. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 2000, at the Britton Chapel, Potosi, with Rev. Ray Thurman officiating. Serving as pallbearers were: Jimmy Brakefield, Ricky Rulo, Allen Jones, Patrick Gee, Bryan Gee and Jason Gee. Interment was in Lost Creek Cemetery, Hwy. 8 West of Shirley, under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Potosi. Independent Journal, Thursday, January 4, 2001
