Bio

Edward E. Dowling, 77, of Taylor passed away on Monday, April 13, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his family. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel. Celebration of Life Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Providence Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shane Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery with full military honors. Edward Eugene "Gene" Dowling was born to Jim Dan Brunson and Laura Johnson Brunson on October 1, 1931, in Niceville, Florida. At age two, his mother remarried and changed his name to Dowling. He joined the United States Air Force at age 17, proudly serving his country and retiring after 20 years of service. Edward served 12 years overseas in Puerto Rico, Japan, Korea, Okinawa, England, and Germany. Ed's step-father was also an Air Force man and together they were stationed in many states. Upon his retirement, he became a carpenter. Ed dearly loved working outdoors, he was talented in art and was a great cook. He married Lydia Gross at St. John's Lutheran Church in Thrall and they were married for 24 years prior to his death. Ed was a kind-hearted, forgiving person, always ready to help anyone. Ed and Lydia loved dancing, traveling, and casinos. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Lydia and she will always cherish the happiness they were blessed with. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Edward Dowling. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Hurta Dowling; daughters, Dana Dawson and husband, Leland, Joan Helle and husband, Chad; son, Lad Dowling; step-children, Connie Junkin and husband, Bobby, Sandra Milburn and husband, Billy, Brian Gross and wife, Ginger; step-sister, Dorothy Fagan of Jewitt, Texas; step-brothers, Jimmy Dowling of Florida and Larry Dowling of El Paso; Texas, 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters. At graveside pallbearers will be the United States Air Force Honor Guard. The family would like to thank Odessy Hospice for all the wonderful care they gave to Ed and his family.
