Aubry Ray Chasteen GARDENDALE - Aubry Ray Chasteen, 91, of Gardendale, Texas passed away quietly into the next world on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Big Spring. Visitation will be 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, July 27, 2018 at Nalley Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory in Midland. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Nalley Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Clydel Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Ray was born on December 26, 1926 in Glidden, Texas to Hayden Alias and Jesse Clyde Lasiter Chas- teen. Most of his early life was spent as a farm boy in Glidden and later in Grapevine where he graduated from high school. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and later proudly served as a United States Marine. He married Ellen Loyce Palmer in Grand Prairie on July 2, 1956. In the early 1960s he answered the Lord's call and entered the ministry, pastoring churches in Provo, Utah and Collins, Missouri. After leaving the full time ministry, he continued to preach as interim pastor of several churches over the years, filling the pulpit in many small churches in West Texas. He worked for many years at Thermal Scientific in Odessa before retiring. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Loyce Chasteen; daughter, Vickie Benjamin of Odessa; sons, Hayden Chasteen and wife Vicki of Grapevine, and David Chasteen and wife Sheri of Brownfield; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Brand of Georgetown, Texas; brother, Kenneth Chasteen of Windsor, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his son Ron Chasteen. Ray will be remembered as a good man who loved his family, loved his God and loved his country. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Northside Baptist Church or the VA Hospice in Big Spring.
