Bio

The Quill , page 1 Tuesday, April 10, 1906 MRS. DAVID SHRIER. Mrs. David Shrier died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. John Gordon, at 4 o'clock this morning of cancer of the stomach, after an extended illness, aged 92 [sic] years, 9 months and 18 days. Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon; interment in Oakwood cemetery. Deceased's maiden name was Jane Hopkins and she was born in Cincinnati, O., June 16, 1813 [sic]. She moved to this state many years ago and first located in Astoria after coming to this county, and moved to this city Dec. 28, 1904. She was twice married, her first husband being Wm. Williams. He died many years ago and on June 22, 1838, she was again married, her second husband being Davied [sic] Shrier, who died about a year ago. For 84 years she has been a consistent member of the Methodist church, attending faithfully to her work until advancing years incapacitated her for those duties. She has been suffering from a cancer of the stomach since last October and her death has not been unexpected. She was the mother of 12 children two by her first husband; and 10 as a result of her second union. Of these only five survive -- Mrs. J. H. Phelps and Mrs. John Gordon, both of this city, Mrs. Lydia Gaumer, of Blandinsville, William and George, of LaHarpe. She is survived also by three brothers--William and Frank Hopkins, of Chicago, and Barton Hopkins, of Colorado, one sister, Mrs. Julia McClellan, of Astoria, and four half sisters--Mrs. Mary Stambaugh, of Texas, Mrs. Ellen Smith, Ipava, Mrs. Pricilla Campbell, of Missouri, and Mrs. Elvira Cox, of Astoria. She was one of the oldest residents of this city and has lived a long and dutiful life and now, with her work finished, passes quietly to her well-earned reward.--Macomb Journal, April 3, 1906.
