Bio

Dolores (Hahn Leifeld) Lingren, 91, passed away July 16, 2018 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care in Norfolk, NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE with Rev. Kevin Vogel officiating. Burial will be in parish cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 p.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. with Deacon Jim Schindel officiating. Dolores Katherine, daughter of George and Elisabeth (Fuchs) Hahn, was born April 12, 1927 on a farm southeast of Petersburg. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. Dolores received her formal education at District 56 and St. John the Baptist Catholic School, staying with her grandparents during this time. She later attended Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, and worked three years in Detroit, Michigan, for Western Union Telegraph Company as a teletype operator. On September 6, 1948, Dolores married Jerome Leifeld, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion. To this union, five children were born. The couple farmed southeast of Petersburg until Jerome's accidental death on April 14, 1971. Dolores had a farm sale on May 2, 1971, and moved with her family into Petersburg where she was employed by the Petersburg Locker. The Petersburg Community was very supportive of Dolores and she felt safe raising her family in Petersburg. Ultimately, Dolores was employed at the Petersburg State Bank for 26 years, retiring April 1, 1999. Actions speak louder than words and Dolores was the consummate volunteer. She was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church and gave her time and talent serving as a Eucharistic Minister, Treasurer and Circle Leader of St. John's Altar Society, 18 years with the APC Rural Central Deanery (14 years as Chairman and on its Executive Board 6 years). In March 1988, she graduated from the Family Ministry Training Program, serving on this parish committee for 6 years. She was a Chairman for the Prayerline and the Weekend Rosary Group. Dolores demonstrated her commitment to service again on the Pope John XXIII Central Catholic High School Board, the Petersburg Senior Citizen Board, and Chairman of the Boone County Farm Bureau. In 1994, she retired as Treasurer of the Petersburg Commercial Club to which she was faithful for 18 years. On November, 26, 1999, Dolores married James Lingren, at St. John’s in Petersburg. At that time, she moved to Albion where they lived until March 2010, when they moved into The Good Samaritan Estates. She and Jim enjoyed travelling, dancing, and playing cards. Jim passed away April 27, 2013. In 2015, Dolores moved to Skyview Villa in Norfolk, to be closer to family. After a severe stroke in July 2017, she transferred to St. Joseph’s Nursing Home and was affectionately known as “Dottie.” She took great comfort in going to Mass and saying the rosary. Dolores believed that “God is a big part of the journey!” Survivors include her five children: Kerry (Linda) Leifeld, Peoria, IL; Deanna Bogart, Gaithersburg, MD; Deborah (Keith) Habrock, Norfolk, NE; Sr. Denette Leifeld, Yankton, SD; and Kevin (Janelle) Leifeld, Tuscan, AZ; 2 stepchildren: Debbie (Dennis) Barbello, Monument, CO; Kevin Lingren, Mavern, IA; 13 grandchildren: Shane (Rebecca) Leifeld, Cary, IL; Trevor Leifeld, Windsor, CO; Jared Leifeld, Windsor, CO; Katherine (Todd) Lennon, Dominican Republic; James (Lauren) Bogart, Monrovia, MD; Elizabeth (David) Garcia, Sandy, UT; Jeremy Habrock, Omaha, NE; Hilary (Rocky) Claussen, Norfolk, NE; Tonya (Peter) Maas, Omaha, NE; Tyler Habrock, Houston, TX; Nathaniel Leifeld, Dallas, TX;, Lucas Leifeld, Dallas, TX; Isaac Leifeld, Tuscan, AZ; two step grandchildren: Mike Barbello, Monument, CO; Kelly Barbello, Denver, CO; and nine great-grandchildren: Matthew Leifeld; Leigh, Connor and Charles Lennon; Mason and Aubrey Bogart; Erin and Allison Garcia; Cy Claussen, and several nieces and nephews.
